Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday paid rich tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, calling him a child of indomitable courage who gifted the mantra of Swaraj (self-rule) to the entire nation.

Speaking at a public gathering, Shah praised Shivaji Maharaj’s extraordinary leadership and determination, emphasizing that despite lacking resources, military power, or favorable conditions, he successfully challenged and dismantled a 200-year-old Mughal rule.

“Neither luck was with him, nor was the past. He had no money or army. Yet, with his unmatched courage and vision, a young Shivaji gave the country the mantra of Swaraj. Today, 75 years after independence, India stands proudly before the world. We pledge that by the time we mark 100 years of independence, India will be the number one nation globally—fulfilling Shivaji Maharaj’s dream,” Shah declared.

He described Shivaji Maharaj’s ideas of religious pride, self-governance, and linguistic identity as timeless principles of self-respect that transcend geography and resonate with the human spirit.

“Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj united every section of society to create an invincible army with his willpower, courage, and brilliant strategy,” Shah said. He also expressed deep reverence at visiting the historic site where the golden throne of Hindavi Swaraj was once established, calling it an emotionally profound experience.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reiterated the state’s commitment to building a grand memorial of Shivaji Maharaj in the Arabian Sea. He also advocated for a national memorial in Delhi, emphasizing Shivaji’s pan-India legacy.

“We will fight the court battle and ensure that the Arabian Sea memorial is completed. At the same time, there must also be a national memorial for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Delhi,” Fadnavis said.
